Through sorting out and summarizing the previous research foundation of figure-ground rela-tions,this paper traces the development trajectory of the figure-ground theory from three stages:origin,de-velopment and application.Additionally,it explores its theoretical value and limitations,further recognizing its enlightening significance and intrinsic influence in the field of architectural and urban design.It can be inferred that the figure-ground theory still holds significant re-search and application value in the current design disci-pline.Future research can further explore its combination with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence,to promote innovative development in urban design and architectural creation.
