An Analysis of Self-scope,In-group Attraction, and the Process of Youths Falling into Pyramid Schemes
In recent years, the government's efforts to rectify the situation have led to a shrinking of the space for pyramid schemes. However,it is inescapable that pyramid schemes are still able to generate new variants with the help of different business models and tactics in local contexts in order to attract investment targets, and their members are mainly young people. This study provides a panoramic view of the process of young people falling into pyramid schemes. It is found that pyramid schemes induce young people to take the initiative to convert mainly through layout invitation,self-categorisation,and in-group attraction. The activation of group-category identities leads them to acquire the internal stereotypical impressions and behaviours of pyramid schemes in order to resist social stigmatisation, while the adherence to the norms of in-groups leads young people to go to the killers for the sake of realizing the change of their ideal lifestyles. The suppression of pyramid schemes not only requires the compulsory involvement of external justice, but also penetrates deep into the social fabric, guiding contemporary youth groups to positively evaluate mainstream social values and norms, helping them to get rid of negative social identities formed by perceptual misinterpretation through"re-categorisation",and avoiding the formation of"negative social identities"on the values and daily action strategies of youth groups solely by the logic of capital and interest orientation.Through"re-categorisation",we can help them to get rid of the negative social identity formed by perceptual misinterpretation, and prevent the logic of capital and the orientation of interests alone from"taking hostage"the values and daily action strategies of youth groups.
