Credit and Etiquette:The Logic of Sympathy Theory and Governance Path in Youth Volunteer Service
Young volunteers are engaged in diverse, complex, and conflicting emotional work, and sympathy is an important factor for them to overcome job burnout and maintain enthusiasm for volunteer service. This paper, employing Candace Clark's sympathy theory, analyzes the plight of emotional dimension between volunteers and service objects, and explores their inner rules and logic.Sympathy is the basic emotion of voluntary service, which is an organized action of sympathy and a practice of sympathy credibility.Voluntary service follows the basic etiquette of"loyalty, limitation, openness, and reciprocity".At the micro level, emotional governance of youth volunteer service can awaken volunteers'sympathy and dispel their negative emotions;at the middle level,it can sustain the positive experiences of volunteers and optimize the structure of volunteer teams, while at the macro level,it could shape a list of"etiquette"of volunteer service, strengthen social reciprocal incentives, and render young volunteers enough emotional support.
