The Limited"Self-help":The Active Responses of New Media Interns Under the Mediatized Labor Control
With the arrival of the deep mediatization society, digital media is increasingly penetrating various social fields, including production, not only reshaping the control ways of organizations, but also providing the possibility for the active resistance of digital labor. The findings have shown that in the face of the labor dilemmas brought about by mediatized labor control, such as the extension of work time and space, data labor, and emotional labor, new media interns have adopted a series of action strategies with the help of media technology, such as digital strikes, online working-drama performances, the domestication of traffic, and the formation of online mutual support networks. However, due to the instability and high substitutability brought by the low barriers to entry for new media internships and flexible employment, the interns'responses have not fundamentally changed their labor dilemmas. When new media interns direct their actions toward"visible"media technologies, the shackles of other structural forces are obscured.
