Narrative Expression of Beauty and Harmony:Typological Structure of Nuo Masks Art in Southwest China
Nuo masks,as a unique cultural phenomenon,are closely related to ethnicity,region,culture,and aesthetics. At the same time,as a form of formative art,Nuo masks also need to follow artistic laws and aesthetic principles,in order to obtain a realistic reflection and spiritual appeal in artistic aesthetics. Taking the utilitarian purpose of Nuo mask art as the main clue of structural type,and combining with the production techniques and aesthetic characteristics of Nuo masks,this paper analyzes the artistic forms of Nuo masks in Southwest China from multiple levels and dimensions. It profoundly describes that Nuo masks not only reflect the material living standards and economic conditions of a region but also they are related to the cultural level,religious beliefs,customs,aesthetic consciousness,and values of the people in that region. Thus,it reveals the aesthetic concepts and value ideals emphasizing beauty and harmony amid diversity,held by the people in Southwest China.
