Social Relationships Reflected in Legal Documents in Huizhou Genealogies in the Ming and Qing Dynasties
Legal documents have always been one of the hot spots in the research field of Huizhou documents,and a large number of legal documents included in Huizhou genealogies possess inherent characteristics of household registra-tion,with significant academic value. Some of the documents are produced by the government,while the legal documents involving intra-clan and inter-clan disputes constitute the main part of the legal documents in the genealogies. By comb-ing through the rich collection of legal documents of Huizhou genealogies in the Ming and Qing dynasties,this paper ex-plores local clan disputes and further reveals that clans are often initiators of disputes,particularly litigation activities,and meanwhile,the backbone of mediation.
