Bai Juyi's"The Song of Pipa"has two poem titles. The title"Pipa Yin"is considered to be more accurate in text preservation, while the title"Pipa Xing"is widely accepted by the public.Originally, there was a difference between the titles"Xing"and"Yin"in Yuefu poetry.Due to the difficulty in preserving sound, the two titles became confused.Influenced by the Yuefu concept of"focusing on text, not sound",Bai Juyi borrowed from Wang Changling's"Konghou Yin"and Yuan Zhen's"Pipa Ge",making"Pipa Yin"possess the textual characteristics of poetic song style Yuefu. As old titles in Yuefu were deconstructed, the text gained the power to dominate the choice of poem titles, leading to the widespread popularity of the title"Pipa Xing"both domestically and abroad. This title frequently appears in common literature, popular readings, and famous calligraphy and paintings, gradually becoming canonical.
