Evaluation of geological heritage resources and protection strategy of Yunnan Lufeng Dinosaur National Geopark
Yunnan Lufeng Dinosaur National geopark features the world-famous Lufeng Dinosaur and Lufeng Ancient Ape fossils, which have important conservation value. This paper summarises the scientific, aesthetic, popular science and other landscape values of the geological remains of palaeontological fossils in the park and evaluates the geological remains of the protected area on a hierarchical basis, and puts forward different suggestions for the planning and management of the geo-logical remains at all levels,as well as for the use of popular science and technology. The results show:According to the over-all layout of the Geopark, spatial distribution characteristics of geological relics, scientific value and rarity, and the current sit-uation of tourism development and construction of various scenic spots, etc.,the Protected Areas of geological relics of the Park are divided into Extraordinary Protected Sites,Level 1 Protected Areas,Level 2 Protected Areas and Level 3 Protected Areas.Among them, there are 7 special protection sites,4 primary protection zones(with an area of 1.13 km2,accounting for 1.11%),4 secondary protection zones(with an area of 12.80 km2,accounting for 12.62%)and 4 tertiary protection zones(with an area of 38.47 km2,accounting for 37.92%),with a total protection area of 52.40 km2,which accounts for about 51.66%of the total area of the Geopark. The systematic classification of the relics according to their types and distribu-tion characteristics and the proposal of corresponding protection strategies can provide effective references for the green use of geological relics resources in the region and the promotion of ecological civilisation construction and sustainable economic de-velopment.
