Numerical simulation study of the effect of ding-dam location on the confluence zone of river flow
To address the adverse impacts of tributaries on mainstream bank scour and channel navigation at confluence channels. The purpose of river management is to change the flow structure in the confluence area by establishing a ding-dam on the opposite bank side of the tributary downstream of the confluence. After validation of the physical flume experimental model,a numerical model on the effect of ding-dams on the flow intersection zone is developed based on the three-dimen-sional k-ε turbulence model, the free liquid surface capture technique of the VOF method, and the PISO pressure-velocity coupling algorithm. The influence law of the location of ding dam arrangement on the distribution of water level and flow veloci-ty in the confluence area of water flow was analyzed by the control variable method. The results show that, after arranging the ding-dam in the confluence area,a return zone appears downstream of the ding-dam,and the value of the flow velocity in the return zone is small, which can provide a better protection for this side of the bank.
