Practical Application of Various Geophysical Exploration Techniques in Pre-Survey for Submarine Cable Laying
The pre-survey of submarine cable laying is an important step to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the laying.Taking the route survey of a submarine cable in Bohai Sea as an example, this article introduces in de-tail the installation methods, operation procedures, data processing, and matters needing attention in the work of four commonly used marine survey instruments:multi-beam,side-scan sonar, shallow seismic profiler, and magnetometer.Through project practice,it is concluded that the combined use of multi-beam and side-scan sonar can obtain more accurate data information above the seabed.Multi-beam can provide accurate water depth and various position infor-mation,while side-scan sonar can provide qualitative conclusions on various features. The combined use of shallow seismic profiler and magnetometer can provide more comprehensive information on the thickness of subsea sedi-ments,pipeline position, and burial depth. The comprehensive application of multiple instruments can improve the accuracy and efficiency of pipeline laying pre-survey and reduce potential risks. However, data fusion and processing between different instruments are also a challenge, and appropriate data processing and analysis methods need to be adopted to ensure reliable results.
