Can Technology Coopetition Balance Improve Product Innovation Performance in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Firms?
Product(drug)innovation in pharmaceutical manufacturing firms will bring enormous economic and social benefits. How to balance the ambivalent relationship between competition and cooperation in the technol-ogy field to improve product innovation performance has become a topic of widespread concern in academia and industry. On the basis of improving the traditional mechanical balance method, the organic balance method was used to explore the effect of technology coopetition balance on product innovation performance.A total of 215 pharmaceutical manufacturing firms in Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchange market from 2007 to 2022 were selected as samples, and the panel negative binomial model was used to empirically test the research hypothe-ses.The results showed that balancing the two contradictory relationships between technology competition and technical cooperation in pharmaceutical manufacturing firms will not only produce opportunistic risks, but also consume organizational resources and squeeze out the resources required for product innovation, resulting in a significant negative relationship between technology competition and cooperation balance and product innovation performance.Strict regional intellectual property rights protection will increase the cost of drug in-fringement,suppress opportunistic behavior of competing partners, and regional intellectual property rights protection will significantly weaken the negative relationship between the balance of technology competition and cooperation and the performance of product innovation in pharmaceutical manufacturing firms.
