Indoor artificial seeding of seaweed Sargassum muticum
The germination and development of zygotes released on shells and nylon strings were observed in seaweed Sargassum muticum collected from the culture ropes and wild habitat in June 2006. The zygotes were found to divide first 2 h after releasing, to reach four or six cells stage within 24 h and to develop into rhizoids 2 days after releasing at 17 - 18 ℃. The seedlings grew quickly under 22 ℃ at 2000 -6 000 lx in natural seawater supplemented with 60-100 mg/L NaNO3 and did not grow over 23 ℃. The sporelings reached 2 cm in length at a rate of 7 - 20 individuals/cm2 in about four month cultivation.
