Spatial effects and mechanisms of the impact of cultural industry agglomeration on China's urban economic transformation
The cultural industry is a new economic form that promotes urban economic transformation, and the aggregation of cultural industries is a key way to enhance the quality of urban development.By utilizing a panel dataset of 271 cities in China from 2003 to 2019,this study analyzes the temporal evolution and spatial distribution characteristics of the cultural industry agglomeration and urban economic transformation. The Spatial Durbin Model is used to empirically test its impact process, regional heterogeneity, and mechanism. The research finds that:(1)During the research period, there were significant spatial autocorrelation and spatiotemporal differences between cultural industry agglomeration and urban economic transformation in China, and the overall trend was on the rise.By comparing their temporal evolution and distribution range,it can be found that the agglomeration of cultural industries has significant temporal and spatial differences in promoting urban economic transformation.(2)The aggregation of cultural industries promotes the economic transformation and development of this city, the spatial spillover effects is an important factor to promote the overall development of the region, and the impact of neighboring cities in terms of economic distance is also significant.(3)Based on the spatial spillover of Mar and Jacobs Externality, the path for the cultural industry agglomeration to act on urban economic transformation is established, and the specialization of the tertiary industry is the main channel to promote urban economic transformation and development.(4)From the perspective of regional competition, the spatial correlation of urban economic transformation driven by cultural industry agglomeration shows a trend towards strengthening, with relatively stable urban spatial dependency.(5)The positive role of cultural industry agglomeration in urban economic transformation is more pronounced in eastern China, generally surpassing that of the central and western regions. In western China, policy factors have strengthened the positive effect of cultural industry agglomeration. In the future, the cultural industry can serve as new quality productive forces, continuously promoting high-quality development of China's urban economy.
