Characteristics and spatial heterogeneities of online consumption behavior of residents in Pearl River Delta region
The rapid development of digital technology and the penetration of online consumption promoted the diversification of residents'consumption behavior and the transformation of the traditional man-land relationship. The academic achievements mainly focused on the influence of individual and space, ignoring the influence mechanism of the interactional impact between levels. Moreover, the empirical research mainly aimed at cities, and further discussion on regional level is needed. This study explored the spatial heterogeneities of individuals'online consumption behavior in the Pearl River Delta region by using questionnaire survey and interview data.Hierarchical linear model was used to explore the impact mechanism of residents'online consumption behavior from individual and district/county scale factors. This study revealed that the online consumption amount of residents in the study area presents the spatial difference of high core and low periphery. The individual digital access capacity had a positive effect on online consumption behavior, the logistics and transportation accessibility strengthened this effect.Residents'offline consumption behavior had a negative impact on online consumption behavior.Mainly due to some residents'emphasis on service experience and strong dependence on offline consumption, the increase in the amount of offline consumption has squeezed out online consumption and had a substitute effect on it.The economic development can not only directly affect the online consumption behavior, but also strengthen the influence of the individual education on it.The research can enrich the discourse of individuals'online consumption behavior and its spatial heterogeneities, and can offer references for optimizing the layout of retail space.
