Integrative approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of acute pancreatitis by combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine
Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common inflammatory disease of the digestive system in clinical practice, characterized by sudden onset, rapid progression, dangerous condition, and a high mortality rate. The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment approach for AP mainly includes the theories of "unblocking the organs and relieving heat","dissipating, supporting, and tonifying", "spleen carbuncle", and "stagnation" and "turbidity".Integrative treatment combining TCM and Western medicine offers certain advantages for AP.In recent years, the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University has conducted basic mechanism research and clinical diagnosis and treatment of AP based on relevant TCM theories. The "SELECT", "pancreatic-intestinal-inflammation (toxin)-lung", "carbuncle", " pancreas and spleen as a whole", "stagnation and turbidity" and other theories have been proposed, and characteristic TCM granule formulations have been developed, greatly improving the clinical diagnosis and treatment outcomes for AP.This article provides a review of the practice by integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine in the diagnosis and treatment of AP at the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University.
