A Retrospect of 2023 and Looking Ahead to 2024:Promote Forward Singapore and the Development of A Green and Digital Economyin Singapore
In 2023,Tharman Shanmugaratnam was elected as the 9th President of Singapore,which strengthened the plural-ism of political parties.The fourth-generation leadership,with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lawrence Wong at the core,has gradually defined the blueprint for Singapore's future development through the Forward Singapore agenda.In diplo-macy,Singapore adheres to a great power balance and an ASEAN-based foreign policy,and has established an all-round,high-quality and forward-looking partnership with China.In terms of economy,due to the deceleration in manufacturing and trade in goods,Singapore's economic growth has slowed down,achieving only about 1%growth,but the steady recovery of tourism and the rapid development of the digital economy and green economy have become the new driving forces of economic development.Singapore adheres to the principle of establishing a country through trade and its signature of the Protocol to Upgrade the Free Trade Agreement Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Singapore,and the MERCOSUR-Singapore Free Trade Agreement(MCSFTA)has further strengthened the free trade network.In terms of culture,Our SG Heritage Plan 2.0 and"Young ChangeMakers-Youth Heritage Kickstarter Fund"and other initiatives have real-ized innovative development and utilization of cultural heritage and enhanced the identity of Singaporean citizens.In 2024,Singa-pore will steadily promote the transition of leadership power,and the fourth-generation leadership will continue to further define the future direction through Forward Singapore,and build consensus to help the next general election.Singapore will continue to adhere to the"Great Power Balance"and ASEAN-based foreign policy,and actively expand the space for international coopera-tion.The economy in Singaporeis expected to grow between 1.0%and 3.0%.
