Changes,Logic and Impact of the Eastward Shift of the American Strategic Center of Gravity
Ever since the Cold War,the United States'strategic focus shifting eastward to the Asia-Pacific region has become an important feature of its global strategy.During this period, the strategic positioning of successive American governments with regard to the region has shown increasing momentum.Based on the rising status of the Asia-Pacific region in the global political and economic structure, the U.S.has increased its strategic resources investment in the region to maintain and consolidate its dominant international order and the unipolar hegemony, leading to the strategic framework that is mainly reflected in the normal-ization of the U.S.strengthened front military presence in the Asia-Pacific region and the significant enhancement of military de-terrence;the U.S.has increased its involvement and expanded its influence in the Asia-Pacific economic and trade cooperation and established a strategic framework in the economic and trade field.Strategic anxiety of the U.S.over the acceleration of China's development process and its attempts to prevent the"decline of the United States"and consolidate its hegemonic position has shifted the U.S.relations with China from"constructive engagement"to"comprehensive strategic competition with China"with increasingly prominent containment against China. Therefore,China's increasing development achievements and interna-tional influence have become the most important variables in the U.S.strategic shift to the East.Today,it has become a new trend in the United States'containment and prevention against China to strengthen the alliance system, implement strategic contain-ment,emphasize rules and balances, and focus on high-tech competition and blockade. In the field of ideology, the U.S.has never given up the peaceful evolution strategy towards China, and all-round ideological penetration and promotion of value-based diplo-macy have become an important strategy for the U.S.to build an alliance against China. At the same time,as important countries in the world,China and the United States are facing common crises and challenges.Based on the common interests between the two countries, there is also a tendency and space for the two sides to seek cooperation rather than confrontation in the coexistence environment. As the most important bilateral relations in the world today,China-U.S.relations have long gone beyond the bilat-eral scope, and,to a large extent, will determine the direction of world development and the future construction of international order.
