Annual Report on the Development of Singapore Studies(2023)
In 2023,Chinese scholars conducted intensive research on Singapore.In the political field,the focus was on the power transition,challenges and capacity building of the People's Action Party(PAP);in the realm of diplomacy,a deep investiga-tion was made in Singapore's balanced diplomacy with China and the United States,as well as its relations with India;in the eco-nomic sector,the attention was paid to Singapore's macroeconomic development and expanded to the digital economy and green economy;in the security area,concerns were centered around cybersecurity and counter-terrorism cooperation in Singapore;and in the domains of culture,education and society,particular attention was given to drawing lessons and inspiration from Singa-pore's development for China.Furthermore,there was a deeper exploration of the identity of Chinese individuals in Singapore as well as the role played by Chinese businessmen and their organizations.However,there remains ample room to further explore Singapore.For instance,within politics,more extensive research is needed on political party development in Singapore,espe-cially regarding opposition parties and their influence on PAP governance.Scholars are encouraged to expand and deepen their country studies on Singapore to promote high-quality advancements in this field.
