Indian Modi Government's Cultural Diplomacy in Southeast Asia:Practice,Motivation and Prospect
Indian culture has had a profound impact on the historical development of Southeast Asia,which provides a natural advantage for India's cultural diplomacy in Southeast Asian countries.The Indian government has long used cultural elements to enrich its diplomatic approach in Southeast Asia,but the process was relatively slow.Driven by great power competition,eco-nomic growth,strategic coordination and other factors,the Modi government has strengthened historical and cultural exchanges and cooperation in Southeast Asia.While continuing the existing Indian festivals and Buddhist diplomacy and encouraging per-sonnel exchanges,it also put forward the slogans of Yoga diplomacy and digital diplomacy to explore more channels to carry out cultural diplomacy,and there are emerging signs of values diplomacy.Based on the development of political and economic inter-action between India and ASEAN,it can be believed that cultural diplomacy has helped India achieve certain achievements in the short term.However,while increasing the breadth and frequewy of cultural diplomacy,India has not yet vigorously explored the depth of cultural diplomacy in Southeast Asia but still stays at a shallow level.In addition,due to the limitation of disposable fi-nancial resources,the rise of collective consciousness in Southeast Asia as well as India's cultural hegemonic thinking and lack of concentration of diplomatic energy,India's cultural diplomacy to Southeast Asia will remain in a state of high frequency,medium heat and low depth in the foreseeable future.
