The objective of this study is to design and implement a non-contact ultrasonic sensor system that can provide water level in river environment. The system is part of a very low-cost device developed to detect contamination of water by non-conductive liquids,or hydrocarbons floating in the sea, taking advantage of the different electrical conductivity of the fluids involved. The work focuses on the characteristics of the low-cost SRF05 ultrasonic sensor and its implementation in floating organs based on data from laboratory tests.A large number of experiments have been carried out using the micro-linear platform, the triangulation laser, the digital oscilloscope and the post-processing software. In addition,an analysis method based on ultrasonic signal reconstruction is proposed to improve the accuracy of the measurement method. The sensitivity of the final device is about 1 mm.
