Expression of C-Rel and Bcl-xL in rat brain with focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion and its significance
AIM: To investigate the expression of C-Rel and Bcl-xL in Wistar rats with focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and to study the pathophysiological mechanism of signal pathway of nuclear factor-kappa B in cerebral ischemia injury. METHODS: Wistar rat models of focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury were established by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and were randomly divided into normal group (N) , sham-operation group ( S) and cerebral ischemia reperfusion groups(M) , which were subdivided into 2 h reperfusion group (M2 ) , 6h reperfusion group ( M6), 12 h reperfusion group (M12) and 24 h reperfusion group (M24). Expression of C-Rel and Bcl-xL was measured by RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. The absorbance value was measured by imaging analysis. RESULTS: Expression of C-Rel and Bcl-xL in M groups was higher than that in N and S groups (P <0.01) but no inter-group difference was found in expression of C-Rel and Bcl-xL between the 4 model groups (P > 0. 05). The level of C-Rel had positive correlation with Bcl-xL. CONCLUSION: Expression of C-Rel and Bcl-xL increases in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury rats. C-Rel exerts some cerebral protective effects through enhancing the expression of Bcl-xL.
