Study on pathogenicity and antibiotic sensitivity of Vibrio Vulnificus isolated from maritime space of China
AIM: To conduct experimental studies on the toxic infection ability and antibiotic sensitivity of Vibrio Vulnificus isolated from the maritime space of China. METHODS: The general status, leukocyte count and blood culture of Kunming mice were examined after the mice were intraperitoneally injected with Vibrio Vulnificus suspension. Five days' after the injection, the mice were sacrificed and he organs of the sacrificed mice were fixed with formalin fixation, imbedded in paraffin, stained with HE and observed by light microscope. In toxicity experiment, vul-nerant Kunming mice were soaked in artificial sea water for 45 minutes to 60 minutes. The mice were taken out from the water after different time points. The general status, leukocyte count and blood culture were examined, and the antibiotic susceptibility of Vibrio Vulnificus was tested by traditional K-B methods. RESULTS: After injection of Vibrio Vulnificus, the leukocytes of the mice increased and the mortality rate of mice was 80%. The tests of blood, spleens, lungs, liven, kidneys, intestines and ca-vum abrlominis cultures were all Vibrio Vulnificus positive. The diseased regions of lungs, livers and kidneys were severer than those in other organs, and hyperemia, hemorrhage and stasis were observed because of dysaenua. The mortality rate of Vulnerant and soaked Kunming mice was 20% and the positive rate of blood culture was 20%. The tests of cultures from secretions of injured extremity after 6 h, 12 h and day1 to day 3 were all positive and the organ cultures also showed positive results. Inflammatory reaction was observed in organs of infected mice and it was severer in lungs and liven, where abscess was seen. CONCLUSION: Vibrio Vulnificus isolated from maritime space of China is highly virulent. Despite its lower sensibility to Ampicillin, Piperacillin, Az-treonam and sulfanilamide groups, this Vibrio Vulnificus appears to be well sensitive to other antibiotics.
