Study on blood compatibility of a novel polyurethane
AIM: To evaluate the hemocompatibility of a novel polyurethane and to discuss the potentials of its clinical application. METHODS: The hemocompatibility of the novel polyurethane was evaluated by hemolysis test, dynamic cruor time test, and platelets adhesion test. RESULTS: The hemolytic indexes of the polyurethane were lower than 5%. Dynamic cruor time test showed that the novel polyurethane had better blood anticoagulant activity than that in control group, with significant statistical difference (P<0.05). Platelet adhesion test showed that the ability of inhibiting platelet adhesion in the experimental group was better than that in the control group (P < 0.05 ). CONCLUSION: The novel polyurethane is good in blood compatibility and meets the requirements for valves used in artificial heart assistant devices.
