Relation of serum C-reactive protein and pulmonary infection in patients with maintenance haemodialysis
AIM: To explore the relation between serum C-reactive protein ( CPR ) and pulmonary infection in patients with maintenance haemodialysis(MHD). METHODS:CRP level was detected in 96 MHD patients with pulmonary infection before and after therapy and the results were compared with those in control group. Clinical references such as temperature, white blood count, age, dialysis time,hemoglubin,albumin,C/R and Kt/V were also analyzed. RESULTS: Serum CRP levels in MHD patients were higher than in control group and CRP levels in MHD patients with pneumonia were higher than those in not pulmonary. The sensitivity of CRP levels was better than that of temperature and white blood count(P<0.01). Serum CRP levels were not correlated to age,but were positively correlated to temperature and C/R (r = 0.758,0.841,P <0.01) and were negatively correlated to hemoglobin, albumin and Kt/V(r= -0.159,P<0.05;r = -0.190,P<0.01;r= -0.168,P<0.05). CONCLUSION:Serum CRP levels in MHD patients are obviously higher than those in control group. Severe anemia, malnutrition and dialysis inadequacy are risky factors inducing pneumonia and increasing the CRP levels. Dynamic monitoring of CRP can be used as a sensitive indicator in the diagnosis of MHD patients with pneumonia.
