Investigation and analysis of nosocomial infection of in-patients with chronic diseases
AIM:To investigate the nosocomial infection of in-patients with chronic diseases and correlated factors. METHODS: Medical records of 2586 in-patients with chronic diseases from January 1,2006 to December 31,2007 were included in the study and the data of nosocomial infection were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: The nosocomial infection rate of in-patients with chronic disease was 8.1% and the nosocomial infection rate was related to the patients' underlying diseases, age, length of hospital stay and invasive treatment. The nosocomial infection rate increased significantly with the increase of age and the length of hospital stay ( P < 0. 01 ). Nosocomial infections occurred mainly in the respiratory tract (42. 3% ) and the urinary tract (22.1% ),and the main pathogenic organism of nosocomial infection was gram negative bacilli(62. 8% ). CONCLUSION: In-patients with chronic diseases are vulnerable to nosocomial infe ctions, which are closely related to the age, invasive treatment, underlying diseases and length of hospital stay. Prevention and proper treatment of nosocomial infection should be strengthened.
