Effect of a moderate exercise on the regulatory hormones of food intake in rats
AIM: To investigate effect of short force resistance exercises on regulatory honrmones of food intake ( insulin, adiponectin, leptin and ghrelin) and corticosterone. METHODS: Thirty-two 8-week-old SD rats weighing (330 ±5)g were randomly divided into 2 equal groups and fed with basic diet. One group served as control and the other group was subject to a 5-week exercise training. RESULTS: The 5-week exercise training reduced the rat body weight by 6.4% and the total food intake by 11%. The training lowered the insulin and ghrlein levels but increased the corticosterone level. CONCLUSION: Exercise of moderate intensity and duration lowers the hormones that regulate food intake and limits overweight.
