Effect of homocysteine on peripheral mononuclear cell expressing uPA system in patients with breast carcinoma
AIM: To explore whether homocysteine affects the peripheral mononuclear cells (MNC) in expressing urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), urokinase-type plasminogen active receptor (uPAR) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) in patients with breast carcinoma. METHODS: The peripheral MNCs were incubated with culture liquids of different Hcy concen-trations for 4 h and then were smashed, and the levels of uPA, uPAR and PAI-1 were measured by ELISA. RESULTS: Hcy induced the expression of uPA and uPAR but inhibited the expres-sion PAI-1 in a dose-dependent manner. CONCLUSION: Hcy affects the peripheral mononuelear cells in expressing uPA, uPAR and PAI-1, and may play a role in the invasion and metastasis of the breast carcinoma.
