Influence of Bao'shen recipe on expression of VEGF in kidney tissues in experimental diabetic nephropathy rats and its curative effects
AIM: To investigate the influence of Bao'shen recipe on expression of VEGF in the kidney of diabetic rats and its curative effects. METHODS: Streptozotocin (STZ) was injected through abdominal cavity to make models of diabetic rats. Wistar rats were randomized divided into normal control rat group (group C), model control group(group D) and Bao'shen recipe curative group( group DB). After administration for 8 weeks, indexes of blood glucose (BG), body weight (BW), kidney weight/body weight( KW/BW), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), chol (CHO), creatinine clearance rate (Ccr), urine albumin excretion rate (UAER) and pathological changes of renal tissues were observed in the rats. The expression of VEGF protein in renal tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: There was a significant difference in the levels of above parameters between group C and group D(P<0.01). Compared with those in group D, the index of KW/BW was lower(P<0.05), the index of Cer was higher(P<0.01) and the indexes of BUN, CHO and UAER were markedly lower (P<0.01) in group DB. Compared with those in group C, the expression of VEGF was higher in renal tissues of group D(P<0.01 ). Bao'shen recipe significantly reduced the expression of VEGF(P<0.05 ). CONCLUSION: Bao'shen recipe may have some protective effect on the renal function of rats with diabetes mellitus, possibly by depressing the expression of VEGF in the kidneys.
