Relationship between the polymor-phism of ACAT2 gene with essential hypertension and blood lipids in Yugu minority of Gansu Province
AIM: To investigate the relationship between the 734C/T polymorphism of acyl-coenzyme A: cholesterol acyltransferase2 (ACAT2) gene with essential hypertension (EH) and blood lipids in Yugu minority of Gansu Province. METHODS: Polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphisms (PCR-RELP) technique was used to analyze the 734C/T polymorphism. The blood lipids were also measured. The study covered 102 hypertensives and 112 controls of Yugu minority. RESULTS: The distribution of genotype frequencies of ACAT2 gene 734C/T polymorphism in hypertensives was similar to that in controls (χ2 = 4.544, P = 0.103). The T allele of 734C/T was significantly lower in hypertensives (χ2 = 4.025, P = 0.045). However, the level of blood lipids of ACAT2 genotype in hypertensives was no significant difference (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The T allele of 734C/T may be protective against essential hypertension in Yugu minority. The ACAT2 gene 734C/T polymorphism was not affect the level of fasting blood lipid in hypertensives of Yugu minority.
