Effect of enriched environment on emotional behaviour in senescence accelerated-prone mice 8
AIM: To explore the effect of enriched environment on emotional behaviour in senescence accelerated-prone mice 8 (SAMP8). METHODS: Three-month female SAMP8 and 3-month female senescence accelerated-resistant mice1 (SAMR1) were divided into Enriched Environment (EE) group (n = 16) and Standard Environment (SE) group (n = 10) by random. After 3 months, the emotional behaviour was tested by Elevated Plus-Maze(EPM) and brain derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) mRNA expression in hippocampus was tested by RT-PCR. RESULTS: EE mice had higher open arm entry percentage (OE%) and open arm time percentage(OT%) compared with SE mice (P < 0.01). EE mice had higher BDNF mRNA expression in hippocampus compared with SE mice (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: EE could improve BDNF mRNA expression in hippocampus of SAMP8. EE also could change the emotional behaviour, which showed that EE could reduce the anxiety behaviour of SAMP8.
