Creating semantic model on appraisal of randomized controlled trial
AIM: Applying fundamental appraisal theory and basic knowledge of randomized controlled trial to develop a computer readable knowledge model and create template slots and metadata, to present ontology knowledge for critical appraisal. METHODS: The ontology was extracted from recognized international appraisal theory. The knowledge-edit software Prot6g6 was used to construct knowledge class hierarchy, define the properties of classes-slots, the facets of the slots and metadata. RESULTS: A computer readable knowledge model was developed which includ ed basic elements, appraisal items and related principles, con tained 51 slots and related metadata. Thirty instances of published randomized controlled trials were created. CONCLUSION: Com puter readable knowledge ontology is a base for automatic logical operation on web information. The electronic expression of appraisal knowledge model of randomized controlled trial will help medical researchers to create instances and their own self-descrip tion web documents regardless the complicated web ontology language.
