Relationship between hypoxia-inducible factor-1αand epidermal growth factor receptor in lung cancer
AIM:To evaluate the relationship between the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-let and epidermal growth factor receptor in tissues of lung cancer, to investigate the relationship between expression of the two markers and clinicopathological features and prognosis in lung cancer patients, and further to guide the targeting therapy of lung cancer. METHODS:The expression of H1F-1αand EGFR in lung cancer tissues were detected by Envision immunohistochcmical method. The relationship between HIF-1αand EGFR expression and clinicopathological feature of lung cancer patients were analyzed by the statistics.RESULTS:The positive rates of HIF-1αand EGFR expression were higher in female than that in male respectively, the positive rates of HIF-1αand EGFR expression were higher in non-smokers and patients who had no more than 400 package-years smoking histories than that in patients who had more than 400 packageyears smoking histories respectively. The expression of HIF-1αand EGFR were not related to age, tumor size, histological type,TNM classification and lymph node metastasis. The 5-year survival rates in lung cancer patients with HIF-lot(+)/EGFR(+)were lower than that with HIF-lot(-)/EGFR(-), HIF-1α(+)/EGFR(-)and HIF-1α(-)/EGFR(+). CONCLUSION:The expression of HIF-lot is positively correlated with the expression of EGFR, and both of the two proteins could be used as a marker for the prognosis of lung cancer patients.
