Progress on Nematophagous Fungi for Biological Control of Gastrointestinal Nematodes in Livestock
In nature, nematophagous fungi present themselves as natural enemies of gastrointestinal nema-todes.They can be found in all kinds of environments in the world. At present, preliminary achievement has been achieved in the biological control of using nematophagous fungi against parasitic nematodes in ani-mals.In this peper, progress on nematophagous fungi for biological control of gastrointestinal nematodes in livestock was reviewed. In particular,in vitro tests and in vivo tests, and field trial were introduced in bio-logical control of gastrointestinal nematodes in domestic animals. So far, many studies have showed that Duddingtonia flagrans ,with passing through the gastrointestinal tract,is the most potential strain in bi-ological control of animal nematode diseases. It is proposed that for bio-control preparations, some key technologies of large scale production will be broken through to apply the bio-control techniques to live-stock production as early as possible in future.
