Research Status on Chinese Herbal Medicines for Prevention and Treatment of Calf Diarrhea
As a common disease of newborn calves,calf diarrhea is also the main cause of calf death,which seriously endangers the development of cattle breeding industry.Reducing the incidence of diarrhea is there-fore important for cattle health and farm yields.At present,antimicrobials are mainly used to treat calf diar-rhea,but the heavy use of antimicrobial increases bacterial resistance and antimicrobial residues,which en-dangers public health and food safety.Chinese herbal medicines ars antibacterial and anti-inflammatory,im-prove the body immunity,gradually become a hot spot in the treatment of diseases and achieve good thera-peutic effect.Compared with western drugs such as antimicrobials,they have low toxicity,low cost and less harm to the environment.This article mainly reviewed the prevalence of calf diarrhea pathogens,the re-search on antibacterial,antiviral and anti-parasite effects of Chinese herbal medicines,and the prevention and control effect of Chinese herbal medicines on calf diarrhea,providing further reference value for the ap-plication of Chinese herbal medicines in calf diarrhea.
