Prevalence Status and Prevention and Treatment Measures of Canines and Felines Tumors in Xi'an
Through the analysis of 308 cases of canine and feline tumors in 7399 cases(4813 cases of canines and 2586 cases of felines)admitted to the Animal Hospital of Northwest A&F University in Xi'an for 4 years and 7 months,the survey results showed that the incidence of canine and feline tumors in Xi'an was 5.96%and 0.81%,respectively.The most common types of tumors are breast tumors,malignant lympho-mas,lipomas,mastocytomas,and perianal adenomas.The top three canine breeds were poodles,shepherds and golden retrievers,accounting for 24.64%,12.56%and 11.59%respectively.The cases in small canines accounted for 51.57%.There were many elderly canines,but the incidence rate of canines under the age of 9 was 33.45%.The onset season was mainly in winter and spring.The most common sites were in the breast and skin,accounting for 29.27%and 2 1.95%,respectively.The incidence rates in female canines and felines were 58.19%and 42.86%,respectively,and in male canines and felines were 41.81%and 57.14%,respec-tively.Female unsterilized canines and felines were more likely to develop breast tumors and genitourinary tract tumors,while male uncastrated canines and felines were more likely to develop perianal tumors.Histo-pathology showed that 58.51%of cases had benign tumors and 41.49%had malignant tumors.
