Effects of Different Starch Source Diets on Growth Performance,Slaughter Performance and Breast Muscle Quality,Fatty Acid Contents and Muscle Fiber Characteristic of Goslings
Thisexperiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different starch source diets on growth performance, slaughter performance and breast muscle quality, fatty acid contents and muscle fiber characteris-tic of goslings. Two hundred forty healthy 35-day-old male Jiangnan white goslings were selected and random-ly divided into four groups(glutinous rice group, corn group, indica rice group and high amylose group)with six replicates per group and ten goslings per replicate.Goslings in 4 groups were fed experimental diets formu-lated with different starch sources(glutinous rice, corn, indica rice and high amylose). The experiment lasted for 28days.The growth performance and slaughter performance of goslings were measured,as well as the breast muscle quality, fatty acid content and muscle fiber diameter and density of goslings at 63 days of age weremeasured. The results showed as follows:1)the body weight at 63 days of age of corn group and indica rice group was significantly higher than that of high amylose group(P<0.05),and the average daily gain dur-ing 35 to 63 days of age of indica rice group was significantly higher than that of high amylose group(P<0.05).2)The percentage of abdominal fat of corn group and high amylose group was significantly lower than that of glutinous rice group(P<0.05).3)The breast muscle brightness value of glutinous rice group and indi-ca rice group was significantly higher than that of corn group(P<0.05),the breast muscle redness value of corn group was significantly higher than that of glutinous rice group(P<0.05),and the breast muscle shear force of corn group and indica rice group was significantly higher than that of glutinous rice group and high am-ylose group(P<0.05).4)The breast muscle linoleic acid, polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA)and n-6PUFA contents and n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio of glutinous rice group were significantly higher than those of corn group,in-dica rice group and high amylose group(P<0.05).5)The muscle fiber diameter in breast muscle of com group andindica rice group was significantly higher than that of high amylose group(P<0.05),and the fiber density in breastmuscle of glutinous rice group and high amylose group was significantly higher than that of corn group and indica rice group(P<0.05).To sum up,the corn and indica rice as dietary starch sources can improve the growth performance and meat quality of goslings, feeding the indica rice diet can reduce breast muscle tenderness, but can improve the muscle n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio.Different starch source diets can affect the abdominal fat deposition by changing the body energy supply rate of goslings, among them, feeding the gluti-nousrice diet can increase the percentage of abdominal fat and feeding the high amylose diet can decrease the percentage of abdominal fat of goslings.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2023,35(12):7828-7838]
