This experiment investigated the effects of β-mannanase on performance, nutrient apparent metabol-ic rates, egg quality, plasma biochemical indices, intestinal structure, and intestinal microflora of quail during the peak laying period.A total of 240 healthy quail(80 days of age)with similar body weight at the peak of egg production were randomly divided into two groups:six replicates per group and 20 quail per replicate.Quail in the control group were fed a basal diet, and those in the experimental group were fed the basal diet supplemented with 200 mg/kg β-mannanase.The pre-test period was 30 days, and the test period was 120 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the addition of β-mannanase significantly increased the villus height and ratio of villus height to crypt depth,Chaol index,ACE index, and the relative abundance of Alphaproteobacteria and Clostridia in duodenum and ileum(P<0.01),significantly improved egg shape index(P<0.01),significantly increased the average egg weight, apparent metabolic rates of energy and crude protein, the contents of total protein(TP)and albumin(ALB)in plasma and the relative abundance of Erysipelotrichia(P<0.05),significantly improved egg shell strength, egg yolk color and Haugh unit(P<0.05).In addition, the death rate, duodenal crypt depth and relative abundance of Negativicutes significantly reduced(P<0.01),and the ratio of feed to egg,the content of creatinine(CRE),the activities of alanine aminotransferase(ALT)and aspartate aminotransferase(AST)and the content of interleukin-1(IL-1)signif-icantly decreased(P<0.05).In conclusion, dietary supplementation of 200 mg/kg β-mannanase can improve the composition of cecal microflora, performance, nutrient apparent metabolic rate, egg quality, immunity, and intestinal health of quail during the peak laying period.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2023,35(12):7839-7851]
