Effects of Lycium barbarum Leaves on Growth Performance,Serum Biochemical and Antioxidant Indexes and Plasma Metabolome of Rats
The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effects of Lycium barbarum(L.barbarum)leaves on growth performance, serum biochemical and antioxidant indexes and plasma metabolome of rats.Twenty-five healthy male SD rats were selected and randomly divided into five groups with five rats according to the principle of similar body weight, and each rat as one replicate. The rats in NC group(control group)were fed a basal diet, and those in PC group(L.barbarum fruit positive control group)were fed the basal diet with 4 g/kg BW of L.barbarum fruit homogenate by gavage, while rats in LD,MD and HD groups(L.barbarum leaves test groups)were fed the basal diet with 2,4 and 8 g/kg BW of L.barbarum leaves homogenate,re-spectively.The pre-testing period was 7 d,and the formal test period was 28 d.The results showed as follows:1)LD group had the highest final weight(338.63 g)and average weight gain(6.25 g/d),which significant-ly higher than those in the NC,PC and MD groups(P<0.05).2)With the increase of L.barbarum leaves ho-mogenate gavage dose, serum albumin/globulin(A/G)in HD group was the lowest, and significantly lower than that in other groups(P<0.05).3)Compared with other groups, serum total antioxidant capacity in LD group was significantly increased(P<0.05),and it decreased significantly with the increase of L.barbarum leaves homogenate gavage dose(P<0.05).4)A total of 31 differential metabolites were screened by plasma metabolomics analysis, main enrichment the metabolic pathways of arachidonic acid metabolism, purine metab-olism,amino acid metabolism, and nicotinate and nicotinamide metabolism, etc. In summary,L.barbarum leaves can improve the growth performance of model animal rats,it may regulate antioxidant capacity and im-mune function through metabolic pathways such as arachidonic acid and amino acids and intermediate metabo-lites.Under the conditions of this experiment, the gavage dose of L.barbarum leaves homogenate with 2 g/kg BW has the better effect.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(1):610-625]
