Bioactivity of Hydrolyzable Tannins and Their Application in Ruminant Production
Hydrolyzable tannins are plant secondary metabolites from a wide range of sources,with broad-spectrum antibacterial,antioxidant,anti-inflammatory and other biological activities.Most of the current studies focus on the application of hydrolyzable tannins to monogastric animals,but there are many gaps in ruminants.This paper reviews the bioactive characteristics of hydrolyzable tannins and their applications in promoting rumi-nant growth and development,regulating rumen microflora,reducing methane production and improving pro-duction performance are reviewed,in order to provide a theoretical basis for the addition of hydrolyzed tannins as a potential antibiotic substitute in feeds.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(3):1426-1435]
