Effects of Tannin Extract on Growth Performance,Nutrient Apparent Digestibility,Serum Biochemical and Antioxidant Indices of Simmental Fattening Cattle
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of tannin extract on growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility, serum biochemical and antioxidant indices of Simmental fattening cattle.Sixty healthy Simmental crossbred cattle with normal fatness and similar body weight[(543.13±13.54)kg]were randomly divided into 4 groups according to the principle of equal age, body weight, fatness and coat color, with 15 cattle in each group. The control group(group C)was fed a basal diet, and the experimental groups(group Ⅰ,group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ)were fed the basal diets supplemented with 10,20 and 30 g/(head·d)tannin extract, respectively. The pre-experimental period lasted for 7 days, and the experimental period lasted for 120 days. The results showed as follows:1)the average daily gain of group Ⅱ was significantly higher than that of group C(P≤0.05),and the ratio of feed to gain was significantly lower than that of group C(P≤0.05).2)On day 120,the dry matter apparent digestibility of group Ⅲ was significantly lower than that of group C(P<0.05),and the crude protein apparent digestibility of group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ was significantly lower than that of group C(P<0.05).3)On day 60,the serum urea nitrogen content of group Ⅰ and groupⅡ was significantly lower than that of group C(P<0.05).On day 120,the serum urea nitrogen content of group Ⅱ was significantly lower than that of group C(P<0.05),and the serum total protein content of groupⅠ and group Ⅱ was significantly higher than that of group C(P<0.05).4)On day 60,the serum malondial-dehyde content of group Ⅰ and group Ⅱ was significantly lower than that of group C(P<0.05),and the ser-um total antioxidant capacity of group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ was significantly higher than that of group C(P<0.05).On day 120,the serum malondialdehyde content of group Ⅰ and group Ⅱ was significantly lower than that of group C(P<0.05),the serum glutathione peroxidase activity of group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ was significant-ly higher than that of group C(P<0.05),and the serum total antioxidant capacity of group Ⅰ,group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ was significantly higher than that of group C(P<0.05).In conclusion, dietary tannin extract can in-crease the growth performance of Simmental fattening cattle, and improve the nitrogen metabolism and antioxi-dant performance.Under the conditions of this experiment, the appropriate supplemental level of tannin extract in diet for Simmental fattening cattle is 20 g/(head·d).[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(3):1713-1723]
