Effects of Cutting Period and Stubble Height on Feeding Quality of Whole-Plant Corn Silage Based on Principal Component Analysis and Membership Function Analysis
In order to determine the appropriate cutting period and stubble height of whole-plant corn silage(WPCS),the effects of cutting period, stubble height and their interaction on the feeding value of WPCS were studied in this experiment."Yuqingyu No.3"silage corn as test material,4 cutting periods(1/4 milk stage,1/2 milk stage,3/4 milk stage and dough stage)and 5 stubble heights(20,30,40,50 and 60 cm)were set for 20 treatments with 3 replicates per treatment. After ensiling, the contents of conventional nutritional compo-nents and mycotoxins of WPCS were measured. The results showed as follows:1)the interaction between cut-ting period and stubble height had significant impacts on the contents of crude protein(CP),neutral detergent fiber(NDF),acid detergent fiber(ADF),crude ash(Ash),and gross energy(GE)in WPCS(P<0.05).When the cutting period was the same, the CP content increased with the increase of stubble height, and when the stubble height was the same, the CP content showed a decreasing trend with the delay of cutting period.2)The interaction between cutting period and stubble height had significant impacts on the contents of zearalenone(ZEN)and aflatoxins(AFs)in WPCS(P<0.05),and the mycotoxin contents of all treatments were below the level specified for safe feeding.Comprehensive principal component analysis, membership function analysis and correlation analysis showed that delaying the cutting period to the dough stage and ensuring a stubble height greater than 20 cm were beneficial for improving the feeding value of WPCS,and the best performance could be achieved when the stubble height was 60 cm.In conclusion, under the conditions of this experiment, the feeding value of WPCS can be improved by cutting"Yuqingyu No.3"silage corn at the dough stage and keep-ing the stubble height at 30 to 60 cm,with the maximum feeding value can be obtained when the stubble height is 60 cm.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(6):4022-4035]
