Effects of Whole Cassava Silage on Lactation Performance,Rumen Fermentation,Nutrient Apparent Digestibility and Serum Biochemical Indexes and Economic Benefit of Dairy Goats
The aim of this experiment was to study the effects of whole cassava silage on the lactation perform-ance,rumen fermentation, nutrient apparent digestibility and serum biochemical indexes of dairy goats.A total of 24 Sinong Saneng dairy goats with milk yield of(1.47±0.12)kg/d,body weight of(45.23±7.72)kg and milk production of about 140 days were selected and randomly divided into two groups of 12 goats each, with four replicates of three goats in each group. The corn silage group(CN group)was fed a whole corn silage to-tal mixed diet, and the whole cassava silage group(CS group)was fed a whole cassava silage total mixed diet. The experimental period was 52 d.The results showed as follows:1)compared with the CN group, the aver-age daily milk yield in the CS group showed a tendency to increase, but the difference was not statistically sig-nificant(P>0.05).2)The milk protein percentage in the CS group was significantly higher than that in the CN group(P<0.05),and the somatic cell counts was significantly lower than that in the CN group(P<0.05).3)Ruminal fluid pH was highly significantly lower in CS group than in CN group(P<0.01),and ru-minal fluid ammoniacal nitrogen content and volatile fatty acids(VFA)contents were not significantly different between the 2 groups(P>0.05).4)Compared with the CN group, the CS group showed a significant increase in the apparent digestibility of crude protein(CP)and acid detergent fiber(ADF)(P<0.05).5)Compared with the CN group, the CS group showed a significantly lower in the urea nitrogen(UN)content in serum(P<0.05).6)The serum malondialdehyde(MDA)content in the CS group was significantly lower than that in the CN group(P<0.05).7)The hydrocyanic acid content of whole cassava silage was 102.81 mg/kg be-fore silage and decreased to 39.90 mg/kg after silage.8)Adding whole cassava silage to the diet of dairy goats could increase the economic benefit by 1.22 yuan per day.In conclusion, adding whole cassava silage to the di-et of dairy goats can improve rumen fermentation and antioxidant capacity of dairy goats, increase the apparent digestibility of CP and ADF,and improve milk quality and economic benefit.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nu-trition,2024,36(7):4486-4498]
