Effects of Different Pepper Stalk Level Diets on Growth Performance,Nutrient Apparent Digestibility and Serum Indices of Dorper×Hu Hybrid Lambs
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different pepper stalk level diets on growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility and serum indices of Dorper×Hu hybrid lambs.Using a sin-gle-factor completely randomized design, fifty F1 male lambs of Duper × Hu sheep with body weight of(29.58±2.06)kg aged 3 to 4 months were randomly divided into 5 groups with 10 replicates per group and 1 sheep per replicate. The sheep in each group were fed total mixed iso-energetic iso-nitrogenic granule diets con-taining 0(control group),5%,10%,15%and 20%pepper stalk(dry matter basis),respectively. The pre-trial period lasted for 7 days and the experimental period lasted for 66 days. The results showed as follows:1)compared with the control group, the body weight of Duper×Hu hybrid lambs in 20%pepper stalk group on day 57 was significantly decreased(P<0.05);during days 1 to 28,the dry matter intake(DMI)in 10%pep-per stalk group was extremely significantly increased(P<0.01),DMI in 15%pepper stalk group and 20%pepper stalk group was significantly or extremely significantly decreased(P<0.05 or P<0.01);during days 29 to 56,DMI in 10%pepper stalk group was extremely significantly increased(P<0.01),and DMI in 20%pepper stalk group was extremely significantly decreased(P<0.01).2)Compared with the control group, the apparent digestibilities of crude protein and gross energy in 10%pepper stalk group was significantly increased(P<0.05).3)Compared with the control group, the serum glucose content in 15%pepper stalk group and 20%pepper stalk group was significantly decreased(P<0.05);the serum total protein content in 10%pepper stalk group and 20%pepper stalk group was significantly increased(P<0.05).4)Compared with the control group, the serum glutathione peroxidase activity in 5%pepper stalk group and 10%pepper stalk group was sig-nificantly or extremely significantly increased(P<0.05 or P<0.01),and the serum malondialdehyde content in 15%pepper stalk group and 20%pepper stalk group was significantly increased(P<0.05).5)Compared with the control group, the serum interferon-γ content in 10%pepper stalk group and 20%pepper stalk group was significantly increased(P<0.05).In conclusion, under the conditions of this experiment, feeding diets contai-ning 5%to 15%pepper stalk can improve the growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility and serum in-dices of Duper×Hu hybrid lambs, and the effect of 10%pepper stalk is better.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(7):4531-4543]
