Research Progress on Protective Effects of Short Chain Fatty Acids on Intestinal Barrier
The intestinal barrier is a crucial physiological defense mechanism that regulates and maintains ho-meostasis within the organism's internal environment.Short chain fatty acids, emanating from the metabolism of intestinal microorganisms, not only serve as the primary energy source for intestinal epithelial cells but also play a critical role in alleviating tissue inflammation and sustaining the functionality of the intestinal barrier. This article aims to elucidate the protective effects of short chain fatty acids on the four major barriers of the in-testine(mechanical,microbial,chemical,and immune barriers),offering a new research perspective for the treatment of diseases related to intestinal injury.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(8):4861-4871]
