Effects of Curcumin on Laying and Hatching Performance,Egg Quality,Nutrient Metabolism,Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Abilities of Guizhou Yellow-Feather Breeders
This experiment was conducted to study the effects of curcumin on laying and hatching perform-ance,egg quality, nutrient metabolism, and serum antioxidant,anti-inflammatory and immune indexes of Guizhou yellow-feather breeders.A total of 432 Guizhou yellow-feathered breeders(31-weeks-old)with body weight of(1.85±0.15)kg and laying rate of about 40%were randomly assigned to 3 groups with 6 replicates per group and 24 breeders per replicate(female to male ratio was 2:22).The breeders fed experimental diets added with 0(control),200 and 400 mg/kg curcumin, respectively. The pre-trial period lasted for 1 week and the trial period lasted for 8 weeks. The results showed as follows:1)compared the control group, the av-erage daily feed intake of Guizhou yellow-feather breeders were extremely significantly declined by adding 200 and 400 mg/kg curcumin(P<0.01),but the laying rate of breeders was significantly improved by adding 200 mg/kg curcumin(P<0.05),and adding 200 mg/kg curcumin had a tendency to improve the feed/egg ra-tio(0.05<P<0.10),moreover,adding 400 mg/kg curcumin had a tendency to deepen egg yolk color and in-crease eggshell thickness of breeders(0.05<P<0.10).2)Compared the control group, adding 200 mg/kg curcumin significantly increased the apparent metabolic rate of crude protein(P<0.05),adding 200 and 400 mg/kg curcumin significantly increased the apparent metabolic rate of calcium(P<0.05),and the appar-ent metabolic rates of dry matter and phosphorus had an increasing tendency(0.05<P<0.10).3)Compared the control group, adding 200 mg/kg curcumin extremely significantly decreased plasma uric acid(UA)and serum interleukin-1β(IL-β)contents(P<0.01),significantly decreased serum malondialdehyde(MDA)and immunoglobulin M(IgM)contents(P<0.05).4)Compared the control group, adding 200 and 400 mg/kg curcumin had a tendency to increase the fertilization rate of Guizhou yellow-feather breeders(0.05<P<0.10).In conclusion, adding curcumin to the diet can improve the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory abilities of Guizhou yellow-feather breeders, promote the metabolism of dietary nutrients, and improve the laying and hatching performance of Guizhou yellow-feather breeders.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(8):4986-4996]
