Effects of Dietary Protein on Digestion and Metabolism of Mineral Elements
The shortage of protein feed resources and high nitrogen emission pollution are important factors re-stricting the development of animal industry.Therefore,low-protein diet technology has been widely used as a measure to solve these problems.Mineral elements, also known as minerals or inorganic salts, participate in body metabolism and are essential elements for constituting animal body tissues and maintaining normal physio-logical functions, playing a key role in the body such as structural support, metabolic maintenance, and cata-lytic regulation. There are some relationships between dietary protein and mineral element digestion and metab-olism,which may affect the mineral element demand and utilization of animals. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to review the effects of different dietary protein conditions on the digestion and metabolism of eight mineral elements, such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium,in order to provide reference for the application of low-protein diets in animal industry.[Chinese Journal of Ani-mal Nutrition,2024,36(9):5510-5522]
