Effects of Dietary Supplementation with Clostridium butyrate or Sodium Butyrate on Intestinal Short-Chain Fatty Acids Contents,Digestive Enzymes Activities,Antioxidant Indexes and Intestinal Structure of Juvenile Largemouth Bass
The purpose of this experiment is to study the effects of dietary supplementation with Clostridium butyrate(CB)or sodium butyrate(SB)on intestinal short-chain fatty acids contents, digestive enzymes activ-ities,antioxidant indexes and intestinal structure of juvenile largemouth bass.Three iso-nitrogen(50%)and iso-lipid(9%)diets were prepared, which were the base diet(CON group),the base diet+10 mL/kg CB(CB group)and the base diet+1.0 g/kg SB(SB group),respectively.A total of 360 fish[(5.02±0.01)g]were randomly divided into 3 groups with 3 replicates per group and 40 fish per replicate. The experiment peri-od was 56 days. The results showed as follows:1)compared with the control group, the final weight and spe-cific growth rate in CB group were significantly increased(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference in SB group(P>0.05).2)Compared with the control group, the intestinal acetic acid content in CB group was significantly increased(P<0.05),and the contents of propionic acid, isobutyric acid and isovaleric acid in CB and SB groups were significantly increased(P<0.05).3)Compared with the control group, dietary CB and SB supplementation significantly increased the activities of amylase, trypsin and lipase in the intestine(P<0.05),CB group significantly increased the activity of alkaline phosphatase in the intestine(P<0.05),and SB group significantly increased the activity of sodium-potassium-ATPase(P<0.05).4)The intestinal catalase ac-tivity in CB and SB groups was significantly higher than that in control group(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the malondialdehyde content in SB group was significantly decreased(P<0.05),and the total antioxidant capacity in CB group was significantly increased(P<0.05).5)Compared with the control group, the villi width in the middle intestine in CB group was significantly increased(P<0.05),which alleviated in-testinal inflammation. In conclusion, dietary CB significantly improve the growth performance of largemouth bass juvenile fish, and the addition of CB or SB significantly increase the intestinal short-chain fatty acid con-tents of largemouth bass, significantly improve the activities of digestive enzymes and antioxidant indexes, and improve the intestinal structure. The addition of 10 mL/kg CB has better effects on growth performance,an-tioxidant indexes and intestinal villus height.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(9):5883-5894]
