In modern animal husbandry,various factors can lead to inflammatory response in animals,reduce the immunity of livestock and poultry and affect production performance.As a natural plant-based feed addi-tive,essential oils(EOs)have good anti-inflammatory activity,which can regulate the content of cytokines and inflammatory mediators in the body by inhibiting inflammatory pathways such as Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4),nuclear factor-KB(NF-κB)and nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3)inflammasomes,exert anti-inflammatory effects,prevent inflammation in the body,and improve the immunity of livestock and poultry.This article reviews the anti-inflammatory activity,anti-inflammatory mechanism of EOs and their application in livestock and poultry production three aspects,to lay a theoretical foundation for the application of EOs in livestock and poultry production to exert anti-inflammatory activity and improve the health level of the body.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(11):6894-6902]
