Extraction Methods and Biological Functions of Plant Tannins and Their Application in Animal Nutrition
Tannin is a kind of natural polyphenolic compounds derived from a variety of plants.Tannin struc-ture is complex,which can be divided into hydrolysable tannins and condensed tannins.Studies have shown that tannins have biological functions such as anti-diarrhea,antibacterial,antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.At the same time,the function of tannin is closely related to its structure,source and extraction method.In recent years,plant-derived tannins have attracted wide attention since they are expected to be used as a natural alterna-tive to antibiotics,and have been applied in animal production.Therefore,this study mainly reviews the extrac-tion method and biological function of plant tannins and its application in animal nutrition,in order to provide theoretical reference for the further development,research and application of plant tannins as an alternative to antibiotics.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(11):6942-6957]
