Effects of Photo Period Change on Serum Hormone Indexes,Hair Follicle Morphology and Skin Tissue Gene Expression of Cashmere Goats
This experiment was to investigated the effects of photo period change on serum hormone indexes, hair follicle morphology and skin tissue gene expression of cashmere goats.Eighteen Albas cashmere goats were selected and randomly divided into three groups with six goats in each group. The control group(CG group)a-dopted a natural photo period, the short-day photo period group(SDPP group)adopted a photo period of 8 h/d light and 16 h/d darkness, and the shortening photo period group(SPP group)adopted a photo period which the photo period gradually reduced from 16 h/d to 8 h/d.The experiment lasted for 60 days. The results showed as follows:1)during days 26 to 60 of the experiment, the serum melatonin(MLT)concentration of SDPP group was significantly higher than that of CG group(P<0.05);during days 52 to 60 of the experi-ment,the serum MLT concentration of SPP group was significantly higher than that of CG group(P<0.05).During days 46 to 60 of the experiment, the serum prolactin(PRL)concentration of SDPP group was signifi-cantly lower than that of CG group(P<0.05);during days 56 to 60 of the experiment, the serum PRL con-centration of SPP group was significantly lower than that of CG group(P<0.05).During days 54 to 60 of the experiment, the serum insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1)concentration of SDPP and SPP groups was signif-icantly higher than that of CG group(P<0.05).During days 56 to 60 of the experiment, the serum epidermal growth factor(EGF)concentration of SDPP and SPP groups was significantly higher than that of CG group(P<0.05).During days 48 to 60 of the experiment, the serum triiodothyronine(T3)concentration of SDPP group was significantly higher than that of CG group(P<0.05);during days 52 to 60 of the experiment, the serum T3 concentration of SPP group was significantly higher than that of CG group(P<0.05).2)On day 60 of the experiment, the secondary hair follicle depth and primary hairball width of SPP group were significantly higher than those of CG group(P<0.05),and the secondary hairball width was significantly higher than that of CG and SDPP groups(P<0.05).The hair follicle β-catenin mRNA relative expression level of SDPP and SPP groups was significantly higher than that of CG group(P<0.05),and the hair follicle platelet-derived growth factor A(PDGFA)mRNA relative expression level of SPP group was significantly higher than that of CG and SDPP groups(P<0.05).3)On day 30 of the experiment, the skin tissue total superoxide dismutase(T-SOD)activity of SDPP group was significantly higher than that of CG and SPP groups(P<0.05);on day 60 of the experiment, the activities of catalase(CAT)and glutathione peroxidase(GPx)in skin tissue of SD-PP and SPP groups were significantly higher than those of CG group(P<0.05),and the skin tissue malondial-dehyde(MDA)content was significantly lower than that of CG group(P<0.05).On day 60 of the experi-ment,the mRNA relative expression levels of SOD1,GPx4 and CAT in skin tissue of SDPP and SPP groups were significantly higher than those of CG group(P<0.05).In conclusion,short-day photo and shortening photo periods can influence the follicle activity by affecting the secretion of hormones related to follicle devel-opment and mediating the expression of key genes, leading to an increase in secondary follicle depth and folli-cle bulb width under natural conditions.Additionally, shortening the photo period enhances the skin tissue an-tioxidant capacity of cashmere goats, creating favorable conditions for cashmere growth.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(11):7145-7160]
